Dr. Steven Copenhaver
Dr. Steven Copenhaver attended a small Christian liberal arts college, Sterling College, in Kansas from 1980-1984. He earned his Bachelor of Science in two majors Chemistry and Biology. Dr. Copenhaver relocated to Austin, TX, as a chemist/scientist for an A&M University Medical Center from 1985-1989. He accepted and completed his Pediatric residency program at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina from 1989-1992. He subsequently was accepted to a Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship at the University of Colorado, The Children's Hospital of Denver and National Jewish Medical and Research Center from 1992-1995. He remained as Clinical Instructor for 1 year, in 1996, before moving to Georgetown, TX. He server as clinical faculty for Texas A&M University Medical School and Scott & White Clinic and Hospital in Temple, TX. He remained at Scott & White/Texas A&M Medical School faculty for 5 years before relocating to Dallas to work with Dr. Andrew Gelfand at Pediatric Pulmonary Specialists. Dr. Copenhaver became a partner at Pediatric Pulmonary Specialists in 2004.
Dr. Copenhaver's areas of interests include cystic fibrosis, asthma, bronchopulmonary dysplasia/chronic lung diseases, chronic mechanical ventilation and airway abnomalities, and flexible bronchoscopy.
Dr. Copenhaver is a clinical faculty member at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He is part of the Cystic Fibrosis team at Children's Medical Center of Dallas. He is also part of the in-patient ventilation unit and out-patient ventilation clinics at Our Children's House at Baylor. Dr. Copenhaver enjoys medical privileges at most Nothern and Central Dallas Medical Centers.
Dr. Copenhaver is is board-certified in both pediatrics and pediatric pulmonary medicine. He is a member of the American Thoracic Society, the Dallas County Medical Society, and Texas Medical Society. He is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.
Dr. Copenhaver and his wife, Silvia, reside in a suburb northeast of Dallas. They enjoy spending time with each other and their family, three sons, six daughters. Dr. Copenhaver enjoys carpentry, reading, fishing, golfing, hiking and gardening.
Dr. Copenhaver has been nominated as a "Mom-Approved" doctor by Dallas Child magazine and recognized as a Top Pediatric Specialist by D Magazine!
